Catch all of the action at Unscripted Twillingate

Come join us as The Unscripted Twillingate Digital Arts Festival launches on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017.

Our mini-conference kickstarts the festival at 9 am and from there it’s four days jam-packed with digital fun, food and entertainment.

Come explore our line up of exciting experiential workshops and events in digital photography, filmmaking, light painting and much more. Learn, share, and create with leaders in their field and with your fellow participants.

And, of course, the fun does not end with the workshops…we continue into the evenings with:

  • a traditional Kitchen Party
  • a feast with a celebrity chef
  • a film festival 
  • the second Amazing Root Cellar Race on Saturday, and
  • a final showcase and evening of party & entertainment to wrap things up.

Plan to join in with the second “Amazing Root Cellar Race“! Come discover a legacy of Twillingate’s heritage and get in on the digital action documenting the amazing root cellars along the way! Who knows, you may get bragging rights as the race’s second winner!

Opening Conference (Pixel Mixer)

The 2016 Unscripted Twillingate Digital Arts Festival kicks off with a mini conference with inspiring leading-edge creative speakers. Hear from folks like Tom Cochrane, the creator of the Old Crow online magazine and other innovators in the digital creative sphere.

All Hands on Shore Pottery Adventure

An adventure-filled workshop by pottery artist Crystal Anstey. Participants will find inspiration and objects to use in the creation of a collaborative legacy art installation made of clay that will remain in Twillingate as an exhibit. Learn about the unique heritage of the region and pottery all at once. This is an outdoor adventure. Dress for terrain and weather.

Kitchen Party with The Split Peas

This year Twilllingate's own The Split Peas will kick off the week's entertainment with a traditional kitchen party at the Orange Lodge, 118 Main St. in Twillingate!

Miksang Photo Adventure

This adventure with adventurer, photographer & author, TA Loeffler, integrates digital media, meditation, mindfulness and photography. Bringing a new eye and new ideas to the practice of photography with immersion in the present moment to make art, to make meaning and to explore nature in and around the great outdoors. Venue: Beothuk Interpretation Centre, Boyd's Cove, the Spirit Garden and trail. Transportation to venue provided Dress for terrain and weather and bring your digital camera!

Canvas in your Pocket

Digital Storyteller Tom Cochrane will teach you how to turn your smartphone or tablet into an easel. Bring your smartphone or tablet along and learn some tricks from this expert in digital storytelling. No prior experience needed. Dress for weather and terrain.

From Snapshots to Awesome Shots

A hands-on workshop with Canadian nature photographer, Dennis Minty. Dennis inspires and instructs photographers of ALL levels and ages and helps you get the most from your photography. Bring your digital cameras. May be outside at some point.

Light Painting Adventure – Pt 1

This is a two part event. Learn about light painting at an indoor session held from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, then put those skills into practice in the evening with a nighttime shoot from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Light painting is a fun technique whereby you create interesting patterns on your night photography by keeping your camera lens open and using a moving light source in front of it. Bring your digital camera and tripod. Ticket valid for both sessions. No individual session tickets sold. Dress for terrain and weather for the evening session.

Forage, Fire, Feast: Cooking Adventure

Lori McCarthy will lead you on a foraging adventure along the shores of the wild Atlantic Ocean. Learn about local edibles and cook your supper on the beach! Bring your appetite. Dress for the terrain and the weather!

The Amazing Root Cellar Race

Run or walk a race through a predetermined course going from root cellar to root cellar using GPS coordinates and an online map. This is a participation, fun event for everyone! Dress for weather and terrain. Bring mobile device. A T-shirt is included with every registration.

iPhone Photo Adventure

Sheridan College Digital Arts Professor, James March, is travelling from Toronto to lead a group on his ever-popular iPhone adventure. Bring your iPhone, iPad or any smart device and learn some cool photography and editing tricks, apps and tips. This is an outdoor adventure, dress for terrain and weather! Bring your device and don't forget to share your work on social media!

Final Showcase and Show

The final event where you get to see the highlights of what was produced during the week including the film made in the filmmaking workshop, smartphone creations, video and photo records of events and the photographic art created in photography workshops. Finger food included. The Festival wraps up with award winning Newfoundland singer-songwriter, Sherman Downey.
